Michelle Williams and Thomas Kail‘s relationship got off to an unconventional start — but the duo are still going strong.
The couple crossed paths while working together on FX’s Fosse/Verdon. During filming, Williams was married to musician Phil Elverum, from whom she split in April 2019. Kail, for his part, was married to Broadway’s Angela Christian. However, sparks seemingly flew between the Dawson’s Creek alum and Kail on set.
Us Weekly confirmed in December 2019 that the pair were engaged — and that Williams was pregnant with their first child together. Williams previously welcomed daughter Matilda in October 2005 with late partner Heath Ledger, from whom she split in 2007. Ledger died of an accidental overdose the following year.
Williams and the In the Heights director were “very happy and thrilled to be bringing a baby into the world,” a source told Us in January 2020, adding that the twosome “would like to be married” before she gave birth. The pair tied the knot later that year and welcomed their first child in June 2020.

The duo made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2020 Golden Globes, attending the SAG Awards together weeks later. At the time, a source told Us that the beginning of the pair's romance was "messy behind the scenes."
Us exclusively confirmed Williams' secret wedding to Kail after the twosome were spotted wearing matching rings.
The Venom star gave birth to the pair's first child together. Two years later, Williams revealed the baby boy's name: Hart.
The Golden Globe winner revealed she and Kail were expecting their second child together, her third. "It's totally joyous," she gushed to Variety at the time.
News broke on April 3 that Williams and Kail welcomed their third baby (her fourth) via surrogate roughly six weeks prior.
Williams confirmed the birth of her and Kail’s third child during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“This last baby did not come out of my body,” she told guest host Tiffany Haddish before giving their surrogate a shout-out. “The miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. Thank you, Christine!”
“I have, thanks to Christine, three under 5 at home,” she continued. “Everything’s good and under control. I’m the adult. It’s good, it’s good. It’s just really busy. I’m just trying to figure out the life-work balance, and you know, I hear a lot of people talking about self-care, and I’m just wondering, ‘When?!’ Because I’m a working mom, and so I already have the guilt and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand I need to fill up the tank.”
