Travis Kelce Changed Proposal Plans After Talking to Ed Kelce, Scott Swift

Travis Kelce entrusted his and fiancée Taylor Swift’s fathers to help him come up with the perfect proposal plan.

“He had sent me a picture of the ring, and this was a while ago,” Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, said on the Tuesday, August 26, episode of the “The Jimmy & Nath Show With Emma” podcast. “Family on both sides, kind of, assumed this was going to happen because we’ve never seen our kids so happy.”

According to Ed, Travis, 35, went to ask Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, for his blessing “probably a month ago.”

Travis and Swift, both 35, announced their engagement earlier on Tuesday, sharing the news via a joint Instagram post.

“Travis had these plans to do it, I think, on the next weekend before he took off for Brazil,” Ed claimed, referring to Travis’ first Kansas City Chiefs game of the 2025-2026 season in September. “He was going to make a big production out of it. [He] wanted to make it really special.”

Travis ultimately moved up his proposal plans, popping the question earlier this month in the backyard of his house in Kansas City, Missouri.

“I told him the same thing Scott told him, [which was] asking her is what’s going to make it special,” Ed said. “That’s where you do it, you know what I mean? … Scott adds on, ‘Just get it done [and] don’t worry about any special date. You’re ready, you got the ring [and] go do it.’”

Travis proposed to Swift with an old mine brilliant cut diamond ring designed by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. The rock is set on a gold band with smaller stones and has a thin bezel.

“Travis is incredibly thoughtful. He had a clear vision of what he wanted,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of what the NFL tight end wanted for Taylor’s ring design. “He did it almost entirely on his own. He knows her so well and what she likes — a timeless, classic, vintage touch.”

According to the insider, Travis was “very observant and in tune with” Taylor’s preferred style and wanted to pick out a ring that she’d like.

As Ed mentioned, he got a sneak peek of the ring nearly a month before Travis slipped the bauble on Taylor’s left ring finger.

“I think I saw it earlier in the summer, like, maybe early July,” Ed said. “He was ready, but he had a lot going on then. He had a day off from [training] camp, and I sent him a text, ‘Just go ahead, get a plane, fly to where she is and get this done.’ He just laughed it off.”

While Ed declined to spill any secrets about Travis and Taylor’s potential wedding plans, he did reveal that the couple “most definitely” hopes to have a family one day.

“They both do,” Ed added. “They are made for each other.”
