Keith Urban Urges Fans to 'Stop Reading Into' Lyric Changes Amid His Divorce

Keith Urban is tired of fans analyzing his passionate performances amid his divorce from Nicole Kidman.

“I’ve been covering like this for a long time. Stop reading s*** into it,” the country singer, 57, said before performing an acoustic rendition of his 2002 hit “You’ll Think of Me” during the final night of his High and Alive Tour in Nashville on Friday, October 17.

Urban went on to change the song’s original lyrics from, “You’ll think of me,” to shouting, “But I betcha think about me!” per video footage shared by a fan via TikTok. He then inserted the phrase “all your bulls*** reasons” into the lyric, “Take your space and take your reasons.”

The acoustic version of “You’ll Think of Me,” including its lyric changes, was part of the setlist at many shows on Urban’s tour, which began in May. However, fans started to scrutinize the Academy of Country Music Awards winner’s performances of the song after Us Weekly confirmed his separation from Kidman, 58, on September 29. (Us also confirmed that the Babygirl actress filed for divorce the following day.)

Keith Urban Changed Nicole Kidman Lyric to Guitar Player Before Split News

“Keith Urban crashing out on stage was not on my 2025 Bingo card,” one fan commented on a TikTok video of the musician performing the song at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, on October 4.

“He is hurting 😭,” another user added.

Meanwhile, other longtime fans argued that Urban has been performing the song this way since long before he met Kidman in 2005.

“For reference: he has literally sang this extra verse for 15 years!” one person commented.

“It’s really clear in the comments who has been to his shows and who are trying to draw conclusions from one video. He has always performed with this passion!” another fan wrote.

Urban has also caused controversy by changing lyrics to his 2016 song “The Fighter” during his September 25 concert in Chicago. While performing the Kidman-inspired song with utility player Maggie Baugh, Urban sang, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.” (The original lyrics are, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be your fighter.”)

Baugh, 25, took to Instagram after the show to share footage of the moment, adding, “Did he just say that 👀.” The post resurfaced amid Urban’s divorce from Kidman and led to fan speculation that Baugh played a role in the end of their marriage.

While Maggie has yet to directly address the rumors, her father, Chuck Baugh, denied them by sharing a TikTok video claiming that his daughter may “allegedly [be] the person responsible for Keith’s divorce from Nicole Kidman.”

“NO. Just no,” he wrote via Facebook on October 1.

Urban temporarily removed “The Fighter” from his setlist after the controversy. However, he performed the song with utility player Natalie Stovall in Nashville on Friday. Meanwhile, Maggie has not performed with Urban since Chicago.

Urban and Kidman tied the knot in 2006 and share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. The Big Little Lies star cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her split from The Road host in her divorce filing, according to court docs obtained by Us. Kidman also submitted a marital dissolution agreement, which included a parenting plan, a child support plan and a “parenting seminar order.”
