Pete Davidson Says It’s ‘Nice to Not Be Lying’ About Being Happy

When Pete Davidson says he’s happy, he can now admit that he means it.

“I’m getting older, and when you’ve had enough and enough’s enough, and you gotta make certain changes in your life [and], like, I just made them,” Davidson, 31, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting the all-new Alexa+, a smarter, more conversational and sassier version than its OG counterpart.

“What’s tough about changes like that is, you know, I’ve been doing it for like two or three years where I’ve been kind of living this way,” the SNL alum continued. “Like, it doesn’t change overnight. Like, you gotta be reliable, you gotta show up, you gotta be consistent and then eventually it becomes the normality in how people see you.”

After struggling with his mental health and addiction for many years, Davidson said he’s “stoked with how things are going right now,” noting that he’s in a “nice place in my life.”

“It’s nice to, like, not be lying, you know?” he concluded. “Some people are like, ‘Are you good?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, actually. And I appreciate you asking that.’”

Davidson is currently preparing to become a first-time father after his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, announced her pregnancy on July 16.

“welp now everyone knows we had sex,” the model, 29, captioned a collection of photos and videos showcasing the couple, including one clip of the pair at Hewitt’s ultrasound appointment.

Davidson broke his silence on the pregnancy during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on July 22.

“Well, I honestly couldn’t be more excited. As you know, it’s been my dream forever since I was a little kid,” he told the outlet of how he feels about becoming a father. “The baby’s mother is one of my favorite people to ever exist, ever. She’s going to be a great mom and I’m just stoked.”

Pete also remembered his own father, Scott Davidson, a firefighter who died while responding to the September 11 terror attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center.

“I hope to be … the dad I hoped that I would have,” he continued.

During an appearance on Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast in September, Davidson said he’s grateful to be welcoming a child while he’s sober. However, he added that he “wishes” he had “more time of sobriety because it’s only been, like, a year and change.”

Davidson also said that, in the past, he wanted to have kids for the wrong reasons.

“Because, you know, in other relationships or when I was a drug addict and, you know, very mentally deranged … like, that was my goal. Like, I need to have a kid. I need to get married, like, because that’s how I grew up,” he continued. “All my aunts and uncles got married at, like, 21. And they knew each other since grammar school. And they had three kids by 26. … But I was so not ready.”

Davidson said he realized he needed to get to a place where he could be in a healthy relationship and let go of the pressure to have kids before he was truly ready to become a parent.

“So I’m really grateful it happened now, and I wasn’t looking for a relationship or looking to … obviously I wanted to, but I wasn’t looking to have a baby. And it all just kind of happened at once. And it’s been, like, awesome,” he concluded. “I’m, like, relieved it’s [Hewitt]. And just it’s, yeah, I’m f***ing excited, dude. It’s awesome.”
