Elsbeth is pulling out all the stops during Julia Fox‘s upcoming episode with a grief-themed The Bachelorette segment — and Tony Gonzalez is playing their version of Jesse Palmer.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip of the Thursday, October 23, episode of the hit CBS series, Fox’s character Raquel must make a decision about which guy she wants to end up with after the loss of her husband.
“Tonight on the season finale, Raquel will make her choice,” Gonzalez’s Guy Masters says. “Raquel, what a journey. Both J.D. and Daniel have professed their love and want to spend the rest of their lives with you.”
He continues: “They are two very different men offering two very different futures — and it’s all come down to this. Raquel, who gets to lift the black veil?”
Instead of choosing one of the men waiting at the altar with an engagement ring, Raquel chooses to lift her own veil.
“Neither of you. I am so sorry, guys,” she shares before breaking out in tears. “I still love Johnny.”
According to the official synopsis, Thursday’s episode follows grief influencer Raquel whose “presumed-dead husband makes a miraculous return” but “their reunion takes a fatal plunge.” Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) looks into the case but a “surprise reunion with an old friend could expose a dangerous undercover operation.”
After originally appearing on The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Preston, 58, was reintroduced as Elsbeth Tascioni, who became a de facto detective aiding the NYPD in their investigations. The titular character’s unconventional methods led her to make unique observations that help solve crimes.
Elsbeth, which premiered in 2024, also stars Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson. The procedural nature of the show brings new characters to each episode, with viewers usually knowing who is to blame for a crime from the beginning. Familiar faces including Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Blair Underwood, Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti and Vanessa Williams.
The new season has opened the door for more surprise guest appearances as Elsbeth has had to adjust to working without Kaya (Patterson) by her side. Fans were surprised when season 2 ended with Patterson departing the show as a series regular.
“It’s been in development since the beginning of season 2,” Preston exclusively told Us in May. “We wanted to honor her and elevate her to detective. So it was very exciting when that happened for the character. Not as exciting for us though because we love Carra. I love Carra and I obviously love playing with her.”
Preston promised that wasn’t the last we will see of Kaya, adding, “She’s still on the show — it’s just in a different capacity. It’s nice because it adds some conflict and it adds some stuff for Elsbeth to wrestle with. It’s going to deepen my character.”
Elsbeth airs on CBS Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.
