Emma Stone Is Still Not Over Ex Andrew Garfield's 'Spider-Man' Cameo Lies

Emma Stone can’t get over how ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield kept a huge secret from her.

“I asked him if he was going to be in [Spider-Man: No Way Home] and he was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,'” Stone, 36, said during the Monday, October 20, episode of Josh Horowitz‘s “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast. “I was like, ‘What? Oh, I guess that means no, right?’ But it wasn’t no, it was yes.”

Garfield, 42, reprised his role as Peter Parker from The Amazing Spider-Man movies, which he starred in alongside Stone. (In addition to being costars, Stone and Garfield dated for four years after meeting on set of the 2012 superhero flick.)

Garfield wasn’t the only famous former Spider-Man to appear alongside Tom Holland as Tobey Maguire was in the film as well. Their inclusion in the Marvel blockbuster was one of the most talked-about moments of the year.

“Good for him,” Stone added. “He kept it really close to the vest.”

Stone did not make a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home as her character Gwen Stacy tragically died in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. While her character wasn’t featured on screen, she did play a pivotal role in the story line for Garfield’s character.

Stone confessed on Monday that she had not seen the movie yet but has only heard positive reviews.

“It would be very emotional, I’m sure,” the actress said of how it would feel to watch the movie. “I heard it was fantastic. I will see it eventually.”

Garfield previously shared that he kept his Spider-Man: No Way Home role a secret from many loved ones including Stone.

“Emma kept on texting me,” the actor told Horowitz during a 2022 appearance on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast. “She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ I kept it going, even with her.”

Garfield continued, “She was like, ‘Shut up. Just tell me.’ I’m like, ‘I honestly don’t know … And then she saw it. She was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’”

Garfield previously reflected on connecting with Stone on set of The Amazing Spider-Man.

“We got on really well as people, in between [takes],” Garfield said in a 2012 interview with MTV News. “That was the fun stuff: In between, we’d just mess around and I felt, ‘Ah, this is different.’ I wasn’t really aware of what was happening in the screen test. She keeps you on your toes and that wakes you up. That was the beginning.”

After four years of dating, Garfield and Stone called it quits in 2015. Stone moved on with husband Dave McCary while Garfield has been linked to Monica Barbaro. Despite their breakup, Stone and Garfield have remained friendly over the years.

“We care about each other so much, and that’s a given, that’s kind of this unconditional thing. “There’s so much love between us and so much respect. … I’m her biggest fan as an artist,” Garfield said of his ex to Vanity Fair in January 2017. “It’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing.”
